Music: The Sounds of Sands Eclectic

When I was in 7th grade, I had a close group of friends. Some of them played guitar, and so I wanted to learn. By the time we were 16, we had recorded our own album, got played on 107.7 KNDD by Marco Collins (now in the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame), toured the West Coast in a rented RV opening for Shonen Knife during our spring break, played SXSW and showcase shows at the Viper Room for heavy weight LA music exec’s. In theory, we were supposed to be America’s answer to Silverchair - the teen rock sensation out of Australia. Before the days of cell phone, social media and professional recording software on a laptop, I experienced a lifetime of what most musicians could only dream of living. Not everybody can say they opened for Sugar Ray in front of 5,000 people at Seattle’s famous Bumbershoot festival or played the beer garden at the Gorge Ampatheater before Rush. But I can.

We even recorded demos produced by Adam Casper (who did Soundgarden’s “Down on the Upside” album) in Pearl Jam’s Studio Litho. I’ll never forget sitting there in the kitchen when Matt Cameron swung by to see what was going on. I have some old 8mm video someone in storage that I need to find.

Carne Asada

Carne Asada toured on the warped tour and as part of a documentary film called PUNK LIKE ME. We lived the dream of a headliner band even though we played second stage by the porta-potties.

The Jury Pool

The Jury Pool was the last band I played in while living in Los Angeles. Bassist Michael Lewis was one of the most talented musicians I’ve every played with! I still love this album we recorded with with co-producer Edmund Monsef.

Oddly enough, Marco Collins interviewed me on the air again almost 15 year after he did when I was in high school. And I got to have my picture taken with him and Chris Cornell, which is pretty awesome.
